Health Organization Expands Effort to Encourage Residents to Get COVID–19 Test

The African American Health Program has expanded its effort to encourage the county’s Black residents to get tested for the COVID-19 virus. The organization is partnering with Black faith organizations such as the Islamic Society of the Washington Area and Black Greek letter organizations like Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity to help reach the targeted communities.

Timebank’s Skill Share Presentations Go Virtual This Year

The fifth annual Skill Share presentations from the Silver Spring Timebank will be held virtually this year on Sunday, Feb. 25 from 1:45–4:30 p.m., the group has announced. The free event offers participants the opportunity to learn from other residents, all Timebank members, new skills or other relevant information. Since it is held in Zoom and the SSTB Facebook page this year, anyone can join from anywhere.

CCI Wellness First Community Health Center in State Chosen for White House Vaccine Program

CCI Health & Wellness Services, a Silver Spring-based community health center, is the first health center in Maryland chosen by the White House to participate in its Health Center COVID-19 Vaccine Program. According to the CCI announcement, the Biden administration’s program is designed to increase the vaccine’s delivery to the country’s hardest-hit populations.

Planners to Present on Existing Conditions as Part of Downtown and Adjacent Communities Plan

Montgomery Planning staff working on the Silver Spring Downtown and Adjacent Communities Plan are scheduled to brief the Planning Board on the project at a meeting this morning. The presentation will include an overview of existing conditions data gathering and analysis, providing highlights and major takeaways since the project began seven months ago.

Silver Spring Village Seeks Operations Manager

Silver Spring Village, a local nonprofit that helps seniors age in place, is looking for a part-time operations manager, according to an announcement on Idealist. Responsibilities include “independently coordinate responsibilities across multiple functional areas, including office management, finance, communications, member services, fundraising, and general administrative support,” the listing reads.

Silver Spring to be Featured Tonight on Premiere of WETA Series

Silver Spring is one of the area communities that will be featured tonight on the premiere of a new local series from WETA, the public television station based in Arlington, Va. “If You Lived Here” is a house-hunting series that also “spotlights D.C.-area neighborhoods and properties while celebrating each locale’s history, culture, notable places and flavor,” according to WETA’s website.

Takoma Park Accepting Applications for Community Grant Program

The City of Takoma Park is now accepting applications for its Community Quality of Life Grants program, officials announced. The program is intended for programs, projects or events that provide access and opportunities to participate in the arts and sciences with $5,000 to $10,000 in financial support.
