CCI Health & Wellness Services, a Silver Spring-based community health center, is the first health center in Maryland chosen by the White House to participate in its Health Center COVID-19 Vaccine Program. According to the CCI announcement, the Biden administration’s program is designed to increase the vaccine’s delivery to the country’s hardest-hit populations.
The county judge in a lawsuit fighting the recent indoor dining ban has agreed to dismiss the suit, according to a report in Bethesda Beat. Judge James Bonifant dismissed the case after the plaintiffs, which included the Restaurant Association of Maryland and more than 30 county restaurateurs, and the county agreed the lawsuit now was moot.
The County Council yesterday approved by a 7–2 vote a revised executive order permitting indoor dining in area restaurants, with restrictions. Councilmembers Will Jawando (D-At Large) and Craig Rice (D-District 2) dissented, citing safety issues, the risk of continuing to spread the pandemic and public health experts’ advice against reopening restaurants.
The County Council will hold a public hearing and vote next week on a revised executive order proposed yesterday by County Executive Marc Elrich. The council is scheduled to introduce a resolution approving Executive Order No. 19-21, COVID-19 Local Order – Amending and Restating Order later today, as well as introduce a similar resolution in their role as the Board of Health.
The county’s Flower Avenue Liquor and Wine store has reopened, officials with Alcohol Beverage Services announced. The store, located at 8706-B Flower Ave., was closed Jan. 20 after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.
The county is now vaccinating residents 75 and older with appointments and will continue providing appointments to those in Priority Group 1B (Tier 1) as the supply of vaccines permits, officials announced today. ABS learned about the positive test on Wednesday, Jan. 20 and the store was immediately closed. The employee’s last day at work was Jan. 18.
Gov. Larry Hogan (R) on Monday announced he was proposing the Recovery for the Economy, Livelihoods, Industries, Entrepreneurs, and Families (RELIEF) Act to provide as much as an estimated $1 billion in pandemic assistance to residents and businesses.
A representative of Society Restaurant & Lounge on Georgia Avenue has been ordered to appear at a “show cause” hearing for violations of the terms of its liquor license, according to officials with the county’s Alcohol Beverage Services. In a letter to license holder Samantha El Miskiri dated Nov. 23, operators were charged with twice violating the Dispensing of Liquor section of the rules and regulations of the Board of Liquor Commissioners, as well as the Acts Contrary to Law section.
