Local entrepreneurs start community wellness fund

The Community Wellness Fund Inspired by Bethany Meissner was announced on Valentine’s Day. It’s designed to help her and others in need of self-care not covered by insurance. A new apartment building on the corner of Fenton Street and Wayne Avenue is scheduled to open in the summer with ground-level retail spaces facing Fenton, and East Silver Spring residents are dreaming about what they’d like to see in those spaces. Leo’s Run 2017 raises more than $7,000

More than 400 people registered for this year’s Leo’s Run benefit 5k, raising between $7-8,000 for charity. Of those, 26 were Spirit Runners, who couldn’t participate but sent in support, got a t-shirt and were with the group in spirit Feb. 5. All told, 284 runners and walkers were able to participate that day. The third annual run, a 5K Run/Walk, is a memorial to a son of Mike Mowery (co-founder of Source of the Spring) and wife Caroline Joyce who was stillborn in 2014. The funds...

Council member compiles suggested improvements for Department of Liquor Control

Photo from Wikipedia Councilmember Tom Hucker (D-District 5) has compiled a series of suggestions that could improve the operations of the county’s Department of Liquor Control and sent them in a letter to new DLC Director Robert Dorfman.
