Serving Hope: Casseroles for a Cause Returns to Benefit Shepherd’s Table

Silver Spring Cares has launched the thirteenth edition of Casseroles for a Cause, a food collection event aimed at stocking freezers with meals for partner organizations that serve food-insecure residents.

The organization is leading the initiative in collaboration with downtown Silver Spring-based nonprofit Shepherd’s Table, which is facing a budget shortfall because of rising demand.

Shepherd’s Table recently marked its 40th anniversary and reached a milestone by serving its two-millionth meal in 2021.

Upon signing up, volunteers will get an email confirmation containing instructions, helpful tips, and recipe suggestions. Volunteers can schedule a pickup once the casseroles are ready. Those residing within 15 minutes of downtown Silver Spring can schedule a pickup; volunteers who are located farther away but have a minimum of 10 casseroles to donate can also make arrangements for pickups.

Casseroles for a Cause will continue until Wednesday, Jan. 31. Those interested in volunteering and finding more information can visit the Silver Spring Cares website.
