Holiday shoppers and gift givers now can buy the Shop Takoma e-Gift Card for use at area businesses, according to an announcement from Main Street Takoma. The e-cards are currently accepted at more than 20 restaurants, shops and service businesses in Takoma Park and the Takoma neighborhood of Washington, D.C.
Great Shoals Winery Tasting Room, which opened in Takoma Park in 2018, will close at the end of the year and the space taken over by a shop featuring bubble tea, according to an announcement from Main Street Takoma. Leandra Nichola, a longtime Takoma Park resident, will open Main Street Pearl at 7050 Carroll Ave. serving bubble tea and other “bubble” drinks including beer, wine, cider, kombucha and scratch soda.
Pajama-wearing shoppers in Takoma Park will be rewarded with discounts at participating local businesses, as part of the Old Takoma Business Association’s Pajamarama event on December 6.

A new business opened, and an established one reopened with new features, in Old Takoma. Nikki Lugo, a tattoo artist with more than 17 years of experience, opened Lucky Duck Tattoo, an appointment-only parlor, on the second floor of 7006 Carroll Ave. In the meantime, Takoma Station Tavern has reopened after being closed for three months during the pandemic.
Willow Street Yoga is closing its downtown Silver Spring studio on the second level of 8561 Fenton St., according to an announcement on the company’s Facebook page. In a email to clients on June 3, signed “Joe Miller and the Willow Street team,” the company wrote, “Our biggest challenge in maintaining the studio has always been our high rent obligations.”
The City of Takoma Park is accepting applications for emergency grants to local small businesses affected by the COVID-19 emergency. The Citywide Small Business Mini-Grant Program has been established to provide grants of up to $3,000.
