Great Shoals Winery Will Close, Be Replaced by Bubble Tea Shop

Great Shoals Winery Tasting Room, which opened in Takoma Park in 2018, will close at the end of the year and the space taken over by a shop featuring bubble tea, according to an announcement from Main Street Takoma.

Leandra Nichola, a longtime Takoma Park resident, will open Main Street Pearl at 7050 Carroll Ave. serving bubble tea and other “bubble” drinks including beer, wine, cider, kombucha and scratch soda.

The shop will feature local brands, reusable and compostable service items, and a vegan menu. Nicola plans to partner with nonprofit organizations and include events with other micro entrepreneurs, according to the announcement.

“The shop will offer a kid-preneur corner where youth team members will source, price, and sell small items inspired by the ‘tuck shops’ of Leandra’s youth in her hometown, Toronto,” the release said.

Nicola also has launched an IndieGoGo campaign for potential supporters and is planning a February 2021 opening.
