Gunshot Victim Crashes Vehicle in Takoma Park, Police Investigating

Takoma Park Police are investigating a shooting and vehicle crash that occurred on Sunday evening.

According to police spokesperson Cathy Plevy, officers responded to a report of a personal injury collision near Maple Avenue and Sligo Creek Parkway at approximately 7:58 p.m. on Sunday. Upon arrival, they discovered a disabled vehicle from the crash.

Subsequently, they located the victim, later identified as the driver, who had walked away from the scene and collapsed near the former Washington Adventist Hospital, appearing to have sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.

Based on a witness statement, a front-seat passenger fled the scene; Park Police and the Montgomery County Police K9 unit responded to search for the passenger.

Despite extensive efforts, Plevy said the passenger could not be found.

The victim, an adult Hispanic male, was transported to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. Preliminary investigations suggest that the shooting incident may have occurred at another location, and the victim and passenger subsequently drove to the scene where the collision took place.

Plevy said the ongoing investigation does not indicate any ongoing threat to public safety. Those with information about this incident are asked to contact Takoma Park Police at (301) 270-1100.
