Restaurants, Diners Invited to Participate in MoCo Eats Week

Restaurants and diners in Montgomery County, as well as local craft beverage and food producers, are invited to participate in the upcoming MoCo Eats Week event, which runs from April 23 to May 3. The promotion, organized by Visit Montgomery and the county’s Department of Alcohol Beverage Services, allows diners to enjoy food and drinks at discounted prices. In addition to discounts for diners, restaurants will gain exposure from the event’s promotion by the county.

Urban One’s Resort/Casino Proposal Still in Richmond Mix

Silver Spring-based Urban One, a multimedia entertainment and information company, remains in the running to build a resort/casino in Richmond, Va., according to a report in the Richmond Times-Dispatch. The company announced its plans in February and was one of six original bidders on an economic development project.

Revenue Authority Scraps Barbecue Concept at Sligo Creek Golf Course

The Montgomery County Revenue Authority has scrapped the barbecue concept at Sligo Pit BBQ, according to Wayne Rohauer, the authority’s director of operations. The authority operates the county’s nine public golf courses, including Sligo Creek Golf Course at 9701 Sligo Creek Parkway. The group converted the clubhouse snack bar into Sligo Pit in the spring of 2019.

Kaldi’s Rooftop Being Remodeled, Enclosed

The rooftop of Kaldi’s Social House is being remodeled and will be completely enclosed, according to owner Tsega Hailemariam. The roof has been an issue with Thayer & Spring apartment residents unhappy about the noise from Kaldi’s, as well as businesses along Georgia Avenue, Hailemariam said.

Baltimore Sun Deal Reaches Impasse

The Baltimore Sun’s acquisition by a nonprofit headed by Takoma Park businessman Stewart Bainum, Jr. has reached an impasse. Now, Bainum is reportedly considering acquiring all of The Baltimore Sun’s parent company, Tribune Publishing.
