Eater D.C.: Takoma Bev Co. is a “Must-Try Coffee Shop”

Eater D.C. has featured Takoma Bev Co. in its list of 23 Must-Try Coffee Shops Around D.C.:

The all-day coffee shop and bar from two Northside Social alums brought pour-overs, rotating art exhibits, and mixed drinks to downtown Takoma Park in 2017. The popular cafe has since doubled its seat count by growing into the space next door. A custom espresso machine built for the restaurant is fed a strict diet of Counter Culture Coffee, and a front counter with a white quartz top features a display case stocked with pastries and other impulse buys. Place pickup and delivery orders here.

The Takoma Park coffee shop and bar has received critical praise since opening in 2017. Washington Post food critic Tom Sietsema noted the shop as a standout in his November 4 Ask Tom live chat:

“Food-loving friends who live in Takoma Park give shout outs to Takoma Beverage Company, which locals refer to as TakomaBev; (Trattoria da Lina’s) Carpe Diem Pizzeria for pizza and calzones; Cielo Rojo for good Mexican (a view I share, having dispatched at the mom-and-pop tacos bulked up with shredded pork flavored with orange juice and grilled rockfish striped in two sauces); and the Girl & The Vine for good takeout sandwiches that I, too, gobbled up while sitting at the bar in pre-pandemic times. If it’s offered, spring for the juicy chicken schnitzel BLT served on an onion bun.”

Washington City Paper’s Nevin Martell reported last week that Takoma Bev Co. owner Chris Brown signed a 20-year lease for Mrs. K’s Restaurant and Barrel Bar. The property, which was offered for lease in December of last year, will be called Zinnia, according to Martell.

In addition to Zinnia, Martell also reported that the Takoma Bev Co. team is also behind a forthcoming butcher shop in Takoma Park: Soko should open by July at 7306 Carroll Ave.
