Demolition of 8787 Georgia Avenue to Begin by End of Year

Demolition of 8787 Georgia Ave., the former home of the county’s Planning Department, is slated to begin by the end of the year in preparation for a 2021 groundbreaking of the redevelopment of the property. The county chose partners Bozzuto and StonebridgeCarras in 2013 for a two-part redevelopment effort, according to Devon Hastie, development manager for Bozzuto. The first part, construction of a new office building for the county in Wheaton, has been completed.

Northwest Branch Floods, Closes Colesville Road

The Northwest Branch of the Anacostia River has flooded Colesville Road/Route 29, closing the roadway in both directions. A police officer told the Source photographer to come no closer, as the county’s fire and rescue workers on the scene fear the Burnt Mills Reservoir dam just upstream from the bridge may fail.

Pet of the Week: “Jojo is quite the smart and sassy little comedian.”

“Jojo is quite the smart and sassy little comedian. She looks like a lap dog, but cuddly she is not (unless there’s a thunderstorm or fireworks)! She never gets tired of chasing rabbits around the neighborhood, despite her lack of success in actually catching one. She can learn a new trick in about 10 minutes, and knows the names of all our family members and close friends, as well as her doggy pals on the block. Her favorite food is…anything we are eating! We love to watch her vigorously attack “trump”, her favorite doggy toy. Jojo is agile and spunky and we just love her so much!”
