This weekend, leading into the holidays, features parties and live music including songs of the season and a community sing (both on Saturday) in Takoma Park, along with bands at the Takoma Park VFW and Silver Strings, a new restaurant/bar in downtown Silver Spring. And next Friday is the D.C. Blues Society’s monthly happy hour at the American Legion.
One of Silver Spring’s major downtown office tenants will remain in its Georgia Avenue location despite being purchased earlier this year. Social & Scientific Systems, Inc. has renewed and extended its long-term lease at Washington Property Company’s Silver Spring Plaza building, according to an announcement by WPC.
Mandalay Restaurant and Café will move from its Bonifant Street location to Georgia Avenue in Washington, D.C., according to an announcement on the outlet’s Facebook page. The family-owned restaurant specializes in Burmese cuisine and has operated in Silver Spring since 2005 after moving from College Park.
Once again, this weekend is full of holiday-related events—crafts and gift markets, art sales, musical events and more, including the annual Takoma Cocoa Crawl. Highlights include six local bands playing Saturday night at the American Legion hall, while the Takoma VFW will host a bluegrass jam on Monday and a night of the blues on Tuesday.
This week features holiday-related events too numerous to mention here, including concerts, book and art sales, an annual Christmas bazaar and craft markets. Civic-minded residents can attend the Silver Spring Citizens Advisory Board meeting Monday, while those who are interested in starting a business are welcome at a free workshop Tuesday at the Silver Spring Library. Finally, on Friday the 13th, the folks who bring you Pechakucha present a conversation with death.
We at the Source would like to wish all of our readers a Happy Thanksgiving wherever you may be spending the day. After the holiday, there’s and rescue animal adoption event Sunday in Takoma Park as well as a piano concert, and Cup Scout Pack 23 begins a Toys for Tots drive in Silver Spring. Levine Music hosts a blues jam on Wednesday, followed by a comedy show Thursday at Busboys and Poets. And please remember to shop small this Saturday at your favorite local stores.
