County Seeks Photos of Holiday, Winter Decorations for Online Display

The county is asking residents to share some holiday cheer this season by submitting photos of winter and holiday decorations that will be displayed online. Participants are welcome to submit up to five photos of their homes and neighborhoods. Some will be chosen for display on the county’s home page; all photos will be posted to a special website for viewing by everyone.

Indoor Dining to be Eliminated Next Week Under New Executive Order

Indoor dining at restaurants would be eliminated under the terms of a new executive order issued yesterday by County Executive Marc Elrich. Executive Order 139-20 would still permit outdoor dining, carry out, delivery and drive-through food service. Outdoor service is not permitted between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. under an existing order from Governor Larry Hogan.

Single-Family Home Lots Near Metro Stations Proposed for Other Types of Housing

Owners of property near Metro stations zoned for single-family homes only would be allowed to build additional types of residential housing under legislation introduced yesterday by Councilmember Will Jawando. Zoning Text Amendment (ZTA) 20-07, R-60 Zone – Uses and Standards “would allow owners of R-60 zoned property located within 1 mile of a Metrorail station to build duplexes, townhouses, and multi-family structures within the current R-60 lot coverage, building height, setbacks, minimum lot size, and minimum parking requirements.”

County Groups Launch Online Marketplace, Issue Holiday Challenge

Three county organizations have issued the MoCo Holiday Challenge, part of the launch of a new online directory of local business, dining and shopping information, according to a press release from the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation. The site, MoCo Marketplace, is a partnership between MCEDC, the Montgomery County Food Council’s MoCo Made and Visit Montgomery.

Lidl to Hold Grand Opening of Takoma Park Store Wednesday

Lidl will hold a grand opening of a new store in Takoma Park on Wednesday, Dec. 9, according to the company’s website. The operators will cut the ribbon at 7:15 a.m. at its location on 6881 New Hampshire Ave., the former home of a Shoppers Food Warehouse. The doors will open at 8 a.m. and the first 100 customers will receive a gift card worth anywhere from $5 to $100 each.

Spice Street to Open Wednesday for Carryout, Delivery

Spice Street, a new Indian restaurant coming to Georgia Avenue, confirmed in a text to the Source last week’s report that it will open for carryout and delivery, beginning on Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 11:30 a.m. Customers will be able to place orders via the outlet’s web page from an extensive menu that includes chats, curries, tandoori dishes, biryani choices and combinations, along with vegetarian and vegan options.
