Jawando Proposes Naming Silver Spring Library After Veteran of Tuskegee Airmen

The Silver Spring Library at 900 Wayne Ave. could be renamed if County Executive Marc Elrich goes along with a request from Councilmember Will Jawando (D-At Large). Jawando wrote to Elrich asking him to consider naming the library after Brigadier General Charles McGee, a veteran of the famed all-black Tuskegee Airmen in World War II, flying 137 combat missions.

Library Holds to Go Service to End Tomorrow at Silver Spring, Five Other Branches

The county library system’s Holds to Go service will end tomorrow (May 22) at the six libraries scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, June 1, including Silver Spring, officials announced. In addition to Silver Spring, the other five branches where the service will end are Rockville, Gaithersburg, Olney, Marilyn J. Praisner and Connie Morella.  

Virtual “Just for the Record – A Vinyl Day” Set for Saturday

Fans of vinyl records can celebrate that music medium and all that surrounds the culture of LPs during the fourth annual “Just for the Record – A Vinyl Day”. Montgomery County Public Libraries and Friends of the Library, Montgomery County, Inc. are presenting the free virtual event, which will run from 12 to 3 p.m. this Saturday, April 17.
