Sip and Savor: Takoma Bev Co. Transforms into a Cozy Wine Bar After Dark

This week, Takoma Bev Co. unveiled a new nighttime wine bar concept at their all-day café and coffee shop in Takoma Park.

According to a press release, BevCo @ Night begins at 3 p.m. and offers a revamped menu, wine bar, and a full calendar of exciting neighborhood events.

“Over the past six years Takoma Bev Co. has become the go-to spot in the community to meet up with friends or colleagues, simply grab a drink and read a book, or knock out some emails,” says co-owner Chris Brown. “We definitely aren’t trying to change that. Instead, we want to make our evening offerings more intentional. When I am meeting up with an old friend or just wrapping up some work for the day I can’t think of anything better than a glass of red wine paired with the right cheese and charcuterie or building the perfect bite of tinned fish, capers, lemon, and dill with a crisp white wine. No matter how our guests are ending their day, we think these offerings will be exactly what they are looking for.”

Brown co-owns several local businesses, including Takoma Bev Co. with Seth Cook, Motorkat with former Republic executive chef Danny Wells, Soko Butcher with Koma Café’s Brad Feickert, and Zinnia in Silver Spring.

Chef Wells said he and Brown saw a void in the Takoma Park neighborhood—a lack of establishments where people could gather to share small plates and drinks with friends after work.

To fill this gap, they curated an intriguing yet familiar menu.

“I was a regular at BevCo for years before I started working here,” Wells said. “I have really great memories of meeting friends and family there and trying all the amazing and unique wines while snacking on shared plates. We want to bring back that vibe with a small plate menu that has something for everyone. It’s been great working with Chef Sara and learning about her technique for Peruvian empanadas. I’m also excited about the smoked and cured seafood section and rotating cheese and charcuterie selections. We want to be the go-to spot for those who want a casual and relaxed setting to eat, drink and socialize.”

Cook, the in-house sommelier, said he seized the opportunity to provide the community with a more immersive wine experience.

“Since we conceived Takoma Bev Co., we’ve always been fascinated with connections and storytelling,” Cook notes. “So many of our products have personal connections, but one thing about wine is that it reveals so much more: intention, place, tradition, and a sense of time. Each bottle we sell at Bev Co gives us an opportunity to connect on all these levels, all while enjoying something delicious. Our new Wine Bar experience will give our customers more opportunity to explore some of these special wines that aren’t normally available by the glass. From a rotating list of premium pours to special events with winemakers and purveyors, the new Wine Bar will be a unique experience for our guests, and a moment for us to celebrate together.”

Wine won’t be BevCo @ Night’s sole offering. Four new cocktails have been added to the list, ranging from refreshingly fruity coolers to spirit-forward sippers. The beer program will remain hyper-focused on local breweries like downtown Silver Spring’s Silver Branch Brewing Company, which will contribute to the lineup of events on Friday, April 12th, for a special evening celebrating the release of House Kat, Takoma Bev Co.’s private-label beer.

Additionally, guests can look forward to more locally-centric art evenings, including a Sip N’ Paint class and a Meet the Artist night featuring Martina Loncar.

BevCo @ Night’s hours are 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
