Takoma Park Library, Computer Center to Close This Month for Renovations

The Takoma Park library and computer center at 7500 Maple Ave. will close after Wednesday, Aug. 24 at 8 p.m. in preparation for long-planned renovations, the city announced on its website.

The community center also will get improvements to its facilities.

There is a community meeting planned to discuss the upcoming changes on Monday, Aug. 22, 20, from 7 p.m.–8 p.m. in the community center auditorium. The meeting also will be broadcast on RCN, Comcast/Xfinity, and Verizon Fios, and it will be streamed on City TV’s Facebook and YouTube pages.

The city plans to move to a temporary location, expected to open Oct. 3, for the library and computer center in about a month, but has not yet announced the address.

Last year, the city surveyed residents about their preferred design (shown above) for the new structure, estimated at the time to be an $8 million project.

More information about the project is available online.
