Takoma Park Business Owner Victim of Apparent Drive-By Shooting in D.C.

A Takoma Park business owner was the victim of an apparent drive-by shooting near her home in the District of Columbia, according to several reports.

Nikki Lugo-Rimm opened Lucky Duck Tattoo, an appointment-only tattoo parlor, in September on the second floor of 7006 Carroll Ave. The artist, known professionally as Nikki Balls, is a veteran of 17 years working in various other parlors in D.C. before going out on her own.

The Tuesday night incident occurred in the 800 block of Farragut Avenue N.W., said D.C. blog PoPville, which first reported the shooting.

Quoting the Metropolitan Police Department, PoPville wrote, “On Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at approximately 7:50pm, Fourth District officers responded to the sounds of gunshots in the 800 block of Farragut Street, NW. Upon their arrival, they discovered a victim suffering from a single gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital where the victim was treated for their injuries.”

Lugo-Rimm is believed to be a random victim of the shooting.

A childhood friend of the victim has launched a GoFundMe page for Lugo-Rimm. She reports that the artist suffered a wound that shattered the humerus bone of her right arm, her tattooing arm, just above the elbow and she underwent surgery.

The MPD is asking anyone who has information about the shooting to call 202.727.9099.
