This weekend, Denizens Brewing Co. is hosting the Winter Cask Classic – an epic cask takeover combined with hockey-themed fun. Enter to win a Private Tour & Tasting for 4, hosted by Denizens co-founder and chief beer officer, Jeff Ramirez.
Fenwick Beer & Wine will celebrate its 10th anniversary all day Saturday, Jan. 11, according to owner Suman Shresthra. Shresthra and his wife Cathy opened the shop, which specializes in craft beer and boutique wines, with a soft opening at the end of 2009, then officially opened in January 2010.
Business stories once again dominated the top 10 list of most-read stories published by the Source of the Spring during 2019. Six of the ten included news about businesses opening, while others looked at closings and other changes.
Halloween is Thursday, one week from today, and there are numerous event planned over the next week to celebrate (including the annual Zombie Walk). If your favorite venue isn’t listed, check directly with them. In the meantime, there’s an adoption event with the Humane Rescue Alliance at the Go Brent offices on Saturday, which is also Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Manna Food Center will sponsor a rescued food cooking contest at Sunday’s Farmers Market in Silver Spring, and the Society for the Preservation of Beers from the Wood will hold a beer crawl at the Silver Spring breweries. It will be a busy weekend followed by a quiet week for local events. There’s live music Friday at the Sligo Creek Golf Course and the DC Blues Society 4th Friday Happy Hour at the America Legion, and a free concert Sunday at Montgomery College from the Washington Piano Society. Denizens will host a wild beer festival Saturday, while comedy returns to the Legion Saturday night. Also Saturday evening, Crossroads Market is hosting a special night market in Takoma Park.
Denizens Brewing Co. will celebrate its fifth anniversary in Silver Spring with a New Orleans-themed party on Saturday, July 13, organizers announced. Attendees are encouraged to wear Mardi Gras-style outfits and enjoy a live brass band, drag show, DJ, contests and prizes.
The owner of Kaldi’s Social House will take over the space at 8113 Georgia Ave. currently occupied by Pacci’s Pizzeria and turn it into a restaurant with an American-themed menu.
Denizens Brewing Co. will open its new location in Riverdale Park May 25, an expansion that will allow the company to offer retail sales in the county’s liquor stores, according to Julie Verratti, co-founder and chief brand officer.
Silver Spring’s third downtown brewery will hold its grand opening at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 3, according to cofounders Brett Robison and Christian Layke.
