Two Silver Spring breweries have joined other local brewers and organizations to launch a campaign to thank first responders and other frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Denizens Brewing Company and Silver Branch Brewing Co. are part of #CraftingGratitude, an initiative begun by @TheBeerFairiez, a husband and wife team of Jen and Josh Beinstock that’s described as “a Montgomery County-based community social and networking group.”
AstroLab Brewing will host its first art show Friday night, while the D.C Blues Society has its monthly happy hour concert at the American Legion. Saturday, Scrum Con 2020 for role-playing and war game fans comes to the Silver Spring Civic Building. Opportunities for civic engagement include a WMATA town hall on Monday to discuss budget and proposed route changes, a workshop on proposed RideOn route changes on Tuesday, and a discussion of budgets and other issues affecting public parking in Silver Spring on Wednesday.
Halloween is Thursday, one week from today, and there are numerous event planned over the next week to celebrate (including the annual Zombie Walk). If your favorite venue isn’t listed, check directly with them. In the meantime, there’s an adoption event with the Humane Rescue Alliance at the Go Brent offices on Saturday, which is also Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Manna Food Center will sponsor a rescued food cooking contest at Sunday’s Farmers Market in Silver Spring, and the Society for the Preservation of Beers from the Wood will hold a beer crawl at the Silver Spring breweries.
