Council to Hold Hearing, Vote on Reopening Limited Indoor Dining

The County Council will hold a public hearing and vote next week on a revised executive order proposed yesterday by County Executive Marc Elrich. The council is scheduled to introduce a resolution approving Executive Order No. 19-21, COVID-19 Local Order – Amending and Restating Order later today, as well as introduce a similar resolution in their role as the Board of Health.

Council Extends Deadline to Apply for Charter Review Commission

The County Council has extended the deadline to apply for a seat on the Charter Review Commission until Wednesday, Dec. 23. No more than six members from the same party can sit on the commission, so the council is seeking Republicans, unaffiliated people or members of another party recognized by the Board of Elections, as long as it’s not the Democratic Party.

Council Approves Executive Order Banning Indoor Dining at 5 p.m. Today

The County Council today approved County Executive Marc Elrich’s Executive Order 139-20AM2 that eliminates indoor dining and provides other restrictions, effective at 5 p.m. today (Dec. 15). Outdoor dining, carry-out, delivery and drive-through food service may continue, though outdoor dining is prohibited between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. under an existing order from Gov. Larry Hogan.

Single-Family Home Lots Near Metro Stations Proposed for Other Types of Housing

Owners of property near Metro stations zoned for single-family homes only would be allowed to build additional types of residential housing under legislation introduced yesterday by Councilmember Will Jawando. Zoning Text Amendment (ZTA) 20-07, R-60 Zone – Uses and Standards “would allow owners of R-60 zoned property located within 1 mile of a Metrorail station to build duplexes, townhouses, and multi-family structures within the current R-60 lot coverage, building height, setbacks, minimum lot size, and minimum parking requirements.”

Hucker Elected President of County Council

Councilmember Tom Hucker (D-District 5) was unanimously elected to a one-year term as council president yesterday. Hucker had served a term as vice president. Traditionally, the vice president is elected to the presidency following his or her term. Councilmember Gabe Albornoz (D-At Large), elected in 2018 and chair of the Health and Human Services Committee, was elected vice president.
