Locavino Wins Fourth Wine Spectator Award of Excellence

Wine Spectator has awarded Locavino wine café at 8519 Fenton St. in Downtown Silver Spring its fourth consecutive Award of Excellence.

In the 2023 Wine Spectator awards, announced last week, more than 3,500 restaurants around the world were recognized for their wine programs. Locavino was the only locally-owned restaurant to receive a Wine Spectator award out of five restaurants in Montgomery County, including The Capital Grille, Fogo de Chão, Morton’s, The Steakhouse, and Seasons 52.

Wine Spectator presents two higher levels of awards, the Best of Award of Excellence and the Grand Award. The top level is typically given to restaurants with wine lists exceeding 1,000 labels.

A total of 2,001 Award of Excellence winners in 2023, including Locavino, include wine lists that “feature quality producers and wines that diners cannot easily find in local wine stores or at home.” According to the magazine, these wine selections complement the cuisine of the restaurant both in style and price, providing guests with a well-rounded dining experience.

Locavino, which first won the award in 2020, focuses on wines from Maryland, Italy, and Spain. Washington Family Magazine named the wine café the area’s “Best Local Romantic Restaurant” last year.
