FBI Seeking “Red Hat Guy” Bank Robbery Suspect

The FBI’s Baltimore office is seeking information regarding the “Red Hat Guy“, wanted in connection with a bank robbery that took place on September 16 at the Truist Bank branch in downtown Silver Spring.

According to the FBI, on September 16, 2022, at approximately 12:25 p.m., an unknown suspect entered the Truist Bank in the 1100 block of Wayne Avenue in downtown Silver Spring and approached an employee. He displayed a black handgun and demanded money. The employee handed over undisclosed funds to the suspect, who then left the bank.

The suspect is described as a White male, between the ages of 50 and 60 years old, wearing black sunglasses, a red baseball hat, a light-colored polo shirt, beige pants, and black/white shoes.

Anyone with information about this suspect or robbery is asked to contact the FBI or call the Montgomery County Police’s Major Crimes Division at (240) 773-5070. Those who wish to remain anonymous may contact Crime Solvers at (866) 411-TIPS (8477), online, or via the Crime Solvers app. Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided that leads to an arrest in this case.
