Educators and other stakeholders gathered Sunday to discuss how to increase students’ interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and prepare them for jobs in those fields. Hundreds of people gathered inside and outside the Silver Spring Civic Building last night for a rally titled “How the People & Congress Can Stop a Lawless President.” Speakers included Maryland Sens. Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-8th District) and others asking people to stand up against the policies they disagree with, including recent attacks on Muslims, immigrants and the LGBT community. County Council seeks applicants for Planning Board

The County Council has announced it is looking for applicants to replace outgoing Planning Board member Marye Wells-Harley, who is wrapping up her second term and thus not eligible for reappointment. Wells-Harley’s term ends June 14. The Community Wellness Fund Inspired by Bethany Meissner was announced on Valentine’s Day. It’s designed to help her and others in need of self-care not covered by insurance.
