Timebank’s Skill Share Presentations Go Virtual This Year

The fifth annual Skill Share presentations from the Silver Spring Timebank will be held virtually this year on Sunday, Feb. 25 from 1:45–4:30 p.m., the group has announced. The free event offers participants the opportunity to learn from other residents, all Timebank members, new skills or other relevant information. Since it is held in Zoom and the SSTB Facebook page this year, anyone can join from anywhere.

Takoma Park Accepting Applications for Community Grant Program

The City of Takoma Park is now accepting applications for its Community Quality of Life Grants program, officials announced. The program is intended for programs, projects or events that provide access and opportunities to participate in the arts and sciences with $5,000 to $10,000 in financial support.

County Library System’s MoComCon Going Virtual in 2021

MoComCon, the county library system’s annual celebration of everything related to comics, graphic novels and fandoms, is going virtual in 2021, according to an announcement on the system’s website. The all-day, all-ages event will be held Saturday, Jan. 16 and will include art, cosplay and essay contests for various age groups.

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Woodstock festival with a tribute show at Montgomery College’s Cultural Arts Center on Saturday night. The same night, The Loose Ends host four other local bands at the American Legion hall. Both the Silver Spring Citizens Advisory Board and the Urban District Advisory Board meet this week, while the Friends of Sligo Creek hold a presentation on the stream’s water quality Tuesday evening.

“Red Grape” Wins Tomato Tasting Event

More than 250 people attended Washington Gardener Magazine’s 12th Annual Tomato Taste at the FreshFarm Silver Spring Market on Saturday, Aug. 24. Attendees tasted and voted on their favorite tomato variety. “Red Grape” took the top spot with twice as many votes as “Sun Gold” in second place.
