Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett will hold a Fiscal Year 2019 budget forum and briefing from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 30 in the Silver Spring Civic Building.
The forum, one of a series of five being held around the county beginning last week, is intended to get input from residents about FY19 operating budget priorities.
“Public forums are for residents to tell me what is important to them as I prepare next year’s operating budget for submission to the County Council on March 15,” said Leggett in a press release. “Input from residents for the FY19 budget is crucial in helping me determine the county’s budget priorities.”
Leggett plans to announce his recommended FY19 operating budget on March 15. The latest fiscal estimates show a net decrease in anticipated county revenues of $180.9 million ($94.9 million in FY18 and $86 million in FY19) compared to estimates assumed at the time the FY18 budget was approved.
The County Council will hold a series of public hearings about the proposed budget in April and then approve the operating budget at the end of May.
Also on Tuesday, the council will vote on a FY18 savings plan. The council’s six committees reviewed a proposal from the county executive and are recommending $53.3 million in operating budget savings and $9.3 million in capital budget current revenue savings.
