Larry Hanks and Steve Cormier: Cowboy and Western American Music

May 30 @ 7:00 pm - 10:30 pm

Free
  • Hear authentic, heartfelt singing about the vanishing American West in a free, online concert on Sunday, May 30, 2021.
Cowboy music is about the human condition, western style. Larry Hanks’ earthy, deeply resonant voice draws us deep into the western landscape. For decades, Hanks has been delighting audiences with his rough-hewn bass vocals, tastefully spare 6 and 12-string guitar accompaniments, and virtuosic mouth harp playing. After a lengthy hiatus, Hanks is back on the trail with recent, successful tours of the US, UK, and Europe.
Steve Cormier’s singing is so perfect that the New Mexico Humanities Council made him the official cowboy singer for its Chautauqua program. And he isn’t just a pretty voice. He’s spent a lifetime learning the cowboy’s craft―how to throw a lariat, how to brand a calf, and how to use songs to calm a nervous herd. Steve sings about the real people he’s met on the range: farmers, cowboys, factory workers, schemers and dreamers. His concerts provide insight into a way of life that has almost vanished from the American landscape.
After the concert, join in a sing-around with the performers.
