Elrich Proposes Tightening Some COVID-19 Restrictions

County Executive Marc Elrich has introduced a revised Executive Order 122-20, COVID-19 Local Order that would roll back recent loosening of restrictions designed to lessen the spread of COVID-19. The revisions come in response to a recent spike locally and elsewhere in the number of COVID-19 cases. One of the principal changes reduces the allowed indoor capacity at shops and restaurants from 50% to 25%.

Incumbents Leading in Takoma Park Mayoral, Council Races

Incumbent Takoma Park Mayor Kate Stewart and all six current city council members are leading in races to keep their seats, according to preliminary results posted last night. Stewart was leading challenger Roger Schlegel by a vote of 2,912 to 1,561 with 18 write-in votes.

Question C to Add Two Council Members Poised for Passage

The County Council will add two members in the 2022 election with the passage of Question C, according to unofficial election results posted shortly before 1 a.m. this morning (Nov. 4). The ballot question garnered more than 62% of the vote for the change, while about 37.5% voted against the question.

Hit-and-Run Suspect Arrested; Handgun Found in Jacket

Officers from the Montgomery County Police Department’s 3rd District have arrested and charged Mario J Rios, age 21, of Schrider Street in Silver Spring, with criminal offenses including possession of a handgun, possession of a handgun by a prohibited person due to prior criminal convictions, and second-degree assault for assaulting a 3rd District officer, according to an MCPD press release.
