Thayer-Spring Public Parking Garage Now Open

The county’s Thayer-Spring public parking garage opened this morning in Fenton Village. Also known as Garage #3, the below-grade facility is located at 913 Silver Spring Ave., under the new Thayer&Spring apartment development. The garage includes 115 long-term parking spaces, 40 short-term (under four hours) spaces, six ADA-compliant spaces, eight spaces for motorcycles and 28 for bicycles. The cost is $.70 per hour and payment is required from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., though the facility is open 24/7; a vehicle cannot be parked in the garage more than 14 days in a row. County Releases Balancing Act Tool to Gather Budget Input

The county’s Office of Management and Budget has released “Balancing Act,” a new online tool designed to gather additional public input in the FY20 budget process now underway. The tool is an interactive simulation of the county’s estimated income sources and expenditures for FY20. Examples of incoming revenue include income, property and other taxes, state and federal aid contributions, and other sources. The estimated expenditures are listed in categories including the school system, “Thriving Youth and Families,” “A Growing Economy,” “A Greener County” and other themes developed by the county executive’s office. County Personnel Moves This Week as Administration Transition Continues

Several high-level personnel moves took place in the county this week as the transition to County Executive Marc Elrich’s administration continues. First, Police Chief J. County Issues Cold Emergency Alert

The county has issued a cold emergency alert until 1 p.m. tomorrow, Jan. 31. Wind chill temperatures during this time are expected to dip to below zero, which can cause frostbite within 30 minutes, or lead to hypothermia, or both. The county recommends that residents stay indoors as much as possible. Anyone who must work or be outdoors for any length of time should dress in layers and take frequent breaks in a warm area, as well as stay hydrated. Resource Fair Set Tomorrow for Those Affected by Shutdown

Furloughed government workers, contractors and others affected by the government shutdown can learn about assistance available to them during a resource fair tomorrow (Jan. 26). Councilmember Will Jawando (D-At Large) convened and will co-sponsor the fair, along with Our Voices Matter.
