The eighth annual Taste The World in Fenton Village is expected to draw several thousand people Sunday, May 20 to sample foods from more than 30 restaurants in what’s billed as the D.C. area’s largest restaurant crawl.

About 50 volunteers joined Friends of Sligo Creek to mark Earth Day by sweeping the creek Sunday afternoon.
Two local residents have formed a new nonprofit organization, the Charles Koiner Center for Urban Farming, both to help preserve a Silver Spring institution and to eventually create a network of similar farms.
Operation Paws for Homes (OPH rescue) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization devoted to the rescue, rehabilitation, and placement of dogs who have overcome great odds and deserve wonderful, caring forever homes. OPH is an all-breed dog rescue, and we take in dogs of all shapes, sizes, and ages. These dogs are rescued from overcrowded, high-kill shelters in the southern region of the United States, primarily shelters in South and North Carolina, as well as Virginia. Our goal is to offer a second chance to dogs abandoned in shelters and out of time.
The state legislature yesterday passed bond bills that will provide matching grants to help two nonprofits move into new spaces in the Silver Spring Library.
“I started mowing lawns in the downtown Silver Spring area off Dale Drive where I grew up at about age 12. Built the business up during high school and continued while at University of Maryland. After college I got a real job and hated it! So I started doing landscaping full time.”
Arts on the Block has been chosen to occupy about 4,000 square feet of space on the first floor of the Silver Spring Library, moving from its Kensington location.
