Fatal Hit-and-Run in Takoma Park: Suspect Vehicle Identified by Police

Montgomery County Police have identified the suspect vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run with a pedestrian early Monday in Takoma Park.

In a press release issued Friday, MCPD described the vehicle as a black Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Extended Cab pickup truck, possibly from 1999 to 2006, with likely minor damage to its left side from the collision.

At approximately 1:17 a.m. on Monday, officers from the Takoma Park Police and Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service personnel responded to the 1100 block of University Blvd. E., close to the Mega Mart Latino Supermarket, following reports of a man found lying in the road with head injuries.

Officers discovered the victim in the eastbound lanes of University Blvd. East and took him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Washington, D.C., conducted an autopsy and concluded that the injuries were likely caused by a vehicle, MCPD said.

Detectives determined that a westbound vehicle struck the pedestrian and fled the scene on Lebanon St., entering Prince George’s County.

Detectives are currently trying to identify the victim, who is described as a Hispanic male between 30 and 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 150 pounds, with a short goatee, and wearing a light blue t-shirt and dark blue sweatpants.

Police said that the investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Crash Reconstruction Unit detectives at (240) 773-6620 or [email protected].
