Aldi Grocery Store Employees’ Quick Thinking Leads to Arrest in Larceny and Assault Case

Takoma Park Police have arrested Marvin Flores Cruz, a 40-year-old individual with no fixed address, on charges of larceny and assault.

According to police spokesperson Cathy Plevy, on February 16 at around 6:32 p.m., officers from the Takoma Park Police Department were dispatched to the Aldi grocery store located in the 7600 block of New Hampshire Ave. for the report of a larceny and assault that had just occurred. Upon reaching the scene, Cruz was already under the control of store employees. The investigation revealed that Cruz had brandished a knife during the incident, but the employees successfully disarmed him and secured the weapon before police intervention.

Cruz was taken into custody, formally charged, and then transferred to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, Plevy said.
