Justice Prevails: OnStar Assists Takoma Park Police in Car Theft Arrest

26-year-old Anthony Gomes from Silver Spring was taken into custody by Takoma Park Police this week for the unauthorized use of a stolen vehicle.

According to police spokesperson Cathy Plevy, the incident took place on Tuesday, Feb. 6 around 5:17 p.m., when officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at the Sunoco gas station in the 6900 block of New Hampshire Ave. The vehicle, which was fitted with OnStar technology, was tracked to its location through pinging after the ignition was remotely disabled. Upon reaching the scene, officers found the suspect, identified as Gomes, still inside the stolen vehicle, which had been reported stolen from Howard County.

Gomes was arrested, charged accordingly, and taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, Plevy said.
