Main Street Takoma: Support Takoma Businesses After Yesterday’s Threat

Main Street Takoma is asking for the support of businesses affected by the bomb threat that led to the cancellation of a drag brunch and story hour at Motorkat on Saturday.

Takoma Park Police and a bomb squad quickly responded to an emailed bomb threat, confirming that a thorough search of the 6900 block of Laurel Ave. did not uncover any credible threats in the area. However, the incident caused a significant loss of business leading up to a major holiday, according to Laura Barclay of Main Street Takoma.

Yesterday, Takoma restaurant, Motorkat, received an email threatening the safety and well-being of the attendees at its scheduled drag events. The restaurant was closed as were 17 other surrounding businesses. The threat was determined to be a scare tactic only. All businesses were able to reopen later in the day, but lost a critical pre-holiday shopping/dining/service day which is so important to a small business.

Please come out today and throughout the rest of the holiday season and show some extra support for our Takoma businesses.

Shop Small. Shop Local. Shop Takoma.
