7-Eleven Theft Suspect Escapes Police Custody

Police in Takoma Park say that a theft suspect arrested at a 7-Eleven on Saturday night has escaped custody.

Officers responded at approximately 11:28 p.m. on Saturday to the 7-Eleven on University Blvd. for a theft in progress, according to police spokesperson Cathy Plevy. The suspect was still in the establishment when officers arrived and was arrested without incident. The suspect was handcuffed and placed in the officer’s cruiser. While the officer was investigating the incident, the suspect escaped from the marked patrol vehicle and fled on foot.

An arrest warrant was obtained, and an attempt to serve the warrant at the suspect’s residence was unsuccessful, Plevy said.
