Police: Victim Met Armed Robbery Suspect on Social Media Site

Police in Takoma Park are seeking assistance from the public in identifying suspects in an armed robbery that occurred early Friday morning at Forest Park.

According to police spokesperson Cathy Plevy, officers responded at approximately 1:51 a.m. on April 7 to the area of Prince George’s Ave. and Elm Ave. (Forest Park) in response to a report of an armed robbery. Three suspects approached the victim in Forest Park, one of them with what appeared to be a white rifle with a scope, and another with a baseball bat. The suspects demanded property from the victim, who complied. They tied the victim’s hands and told him to remain on the ground until they were gone. The suspects fled on foot in an unknown direction; the victim freed himself and notified police.

The victim did not sustain any serious physical injuries as a result of the armed robbery. The victim said he met one of the suspects through social media, and he was lured to an isolated location where other suspects were waiting to commit the crime, according to Plevy.

One suspect was described as approximately 5’9″, thin, with curly hair, clean shaven, and was last seen wearing a black sweater and black pants. It is not known who the other two suspects were.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or knowing the identities of the suspects should contact the Takoma Park Police Department at (301) 270-1100.
