Suspects Sought in Takoma Park Armed Carjacking

Police in Takoma Park are asking for the public’s help in identifying three suspects involved in an armed carjacking that occurred early Thursday morning.

Officers responded at approximately 4:21 a.m. on Thursday to the Sunoco gas station in the 6300 block of New Hampshire Ave. for a report of an armed carjacking, according to police spokesperson Cathy Plevy. A dark-colored sedan pulled into the gas station at the same time as the victim. The vehicle was exited by two male suspects, one of whom appeared to be carrying a black handgun. The suspects demanded property from the victim, and he complied with their demands. After jumping into the victim’s vehicle, the suspects fled toward the District. The dark-colored sedan was driven by a third suspect.

There was no physical injury to the victim, and the vehicle, a 2015 black Toyota Rav4 with Maryland license plate number 5ES1560, was entered into the National Crime Information Center’s (NCIC) stolen vehicle database.

Plevy described the suspects as (1) A black male, tall, wearing a ski mask, and armed with a black handgun; and (2) another black male, unknown.

The identification of the dark-colored sedan driver is unknown, Plevy said.

Anyone with information about this armed carjacking is asked to call Takoma Park Police at (301) 270-1100.
