Police: Arrest Made for Food Truck Armed Robberies

Takoma Park Police say that a Hyattsville teen has been arrested in connection with two armed robberies of food trucks that occurred in Takoma Park and Silver Spring.

Chief Antonio DeVaul announced the arrest this afternoon.

Investigators from the Takoma Park and Montgomery County police departments have been investigating several commercial armed robberies of food trucks during January and February 2023. As a result of the investigation, detectives identified the 16-year-old defendant as the suspect responsible for the armed robberies, according to police spokesperson Cathy Plevy.

Detectives from Takoma Park Police and Montgomery County Police obtained an arrest warrant charging the defendant with the following armed robberies:

  • El Solecito Food Truck, 1017 University Blvd., Takoma Park (February 12)
  • Elvira’s Kitchen Food Truck, 14011 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring (January 23)

As a result of the arrest warrant, the defendant was located, arrested, and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit on Monday. The defendant appeared in front of the District Court Commissioner today, who determined that the defendant would be held without bond for the arrest warrants. The teen has been charged as an adult, Plevy said.

Police say that the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about these robberies is asked to contact Takoma Park Police at (301) 270-1100.
