Takoma Park Farmers Market Pie Contest Returns this Year

The Takoma Park Farmers Market Pie Contest returns after a two-year, pandemic-induced hiatus on Sunday, Sept. 18, according to an announcement from Main Street Takoma.

Bakers can enter pies, either sweet or savory, made with seasonal ingredients that are now available at the market for a group of celebrity judges to evaluate and choose winners.

The categories are:

  • Best Apple Pie
  • Best Peach Pie
  • Best Other Pie
  • Best Kid’s Pie
  • Most Unusual Pie
  • Yummy Mess Award, and,
  • Professional Baker.

Each year, the contest gets about 50 entries. Once the judging is over, the pies are sliced and offered for sale, with proceeds going to the market’s Federal Benefit Match Program.

Pies should be dropped off between 11–11:30 a.m., and judging will take place between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Sales of slices will begin at 12:30 p.m. and will be available at 1 p.m. after the winners are announced.

Complete rules for the contest are available online.

The market is located behind the shops on Laurel Avenue; enter at 6931 Laurel Ave.
