Suspect Sought in Burglary, Auto Theft

Takoma Park Police are asking the public for any information regarding a suspect in connection with the residential burglary and theft of two cars that occurred early Wednesday morning.

“On June 1, at approximately 5:06 am, Takoma Park Police responded to the 500 block of Albany Avenue for the report of an abandoned auto in the middle of the roadway,” police spokesperson Cathy Plevy said in an emailed community advisory. “Officers ran the plates and responded to the vehicle’s owner’s residence. Officers arrived to find the front door locked, but the rear door was wide open and a screen had been removed from a first-floor window. Through investigation, it appeared that sometime during the night, unknown suspect(s) broke into the residence and stole keys to one of the victim’s vehicles. The suspect exited the house through the rear door, leaving it open. The suspect drove away in the stolen vehicle. However, the vehicle had a flat tire and was abandoned in the middle of the roadway. The suspect returned to the residence and stole a set of keys to a second vehicle and fled.”

The outstanding stolen vehicle is described as a 2006 gold Honda Civic, MD Tag #2CM9555, and was entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) stolen vehicle database, Plevy said.

Anyone with information about this incident, or the identity of the suspect, is asked to contact the Takoma Park Police Department at (301) 270-1100 and refer to case #220023372.
