Takoma Park Police to Mark National Night Out Tuesday

The Takoma Park Police Department will mark National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 3 at Piney Branch Elementary School, 7510 Maple Ave., according to a community advisory.

The event will run from 6–9 p.m. and feature McGruff the Crime Dog along with a display of police vehicles and Maryland National Park Police horses.

Activities include music for dancing and karaoke, a dunk tank, child ID and fingerprinting, face painting, a moon bounce, food, drink, games and prizes.

Due to the event, some roads will not allow parking from 3–10 p.m.: Maple Avenue from Philadelphia Avenue to Lee Avenue, and no parking on Lee Avenue from Carroll Avenue to Maple Avenue.

In addition, Maple and Hancock avenues will be closed at Grant Avenue from 3–10 p.m., and Maple from Philadelphia to Lee avenues will be closed to traffic from 5–10 p.m.

According to the department, “Lee Avenue will be a detour route; vehicles trying to access Maple Avenue from Philadelphia Avenue will need to go up to Carroll Avenue and make a left onto Carroll Avenue and another left onto Lee Avenue to access Maple Avenue.”

It will be the same route for vehicles trying to access Philadelphia Avenue from Maple Avenue.
