The Fullfillery zero waste shop will have a soft opening at its new home in Takoma Park this Thursday, June 3rd, according to an email from Main Street Takoma.
The shop will be located on the second floor at 7006 Carroll Ave., above Mark’s Kitchen.
Fullfillery first opened in December 2019 as the area’s first zero waste shop. After closing the shop in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the owners shifted to an online store with curbside pickup, while making pop-up appearances outside of the Takoma Park Farmers Market.
“Fullfillery is a zero waste shop that sells organic soaps, detergents, and personal care products, with refillable or compostable packaging that is always plastic-free,” said Laura Barclay of the Old Takoma Business Association via email. “Its mission is to be a leader in decreasing single-use plastics usage in the DC metro area for household and personal care products. Fullfillery sources many of its products locally to support the local economy and ensure products have a low carbon footprint. Many of its products, including concentrated liquid dish soap, shampoo bars, body soaps, have options that are made within 20 miles of Takoma Park. Its products are also made with attention to sustainable, fair trade practices.
“The store was founded by climate activists who wanted to make zero waste living more accessible. Founders include Rini Saha, a former high school teacher, and founder of the nonprofit GreenThinker DC – a nonprofit that educates people on how to a live zero waste lifestyle; and Susan Cho, an active community member helping promote sustainable living who is also on the Board of the TPSS Co-op and co-founder of Maitri House, an intentional community. Fullfillery welcomed two new partners this year – Emoke Gaidosh, founder of Costa Cosmetics who uses her background as a chemist to create her soaps and detergents; and Christelle Carito, who works for an international nonprofit focused on financial inclusion.”
