County Expands MLK Day Service to Week of Virtual Events
The county will expand its annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service to a full week of virtual events beginning tomorrow, Jan. 16, through Jan. 24, according to an announcement.
County Libraries to Reduce Hours
Montgomery County Public Libraries will temporarily reduce their contactless pickup hours of service to 48 hours weekly beginning Sunday, Jan. 24, according to a press release.
Free Outdoor WiFi Now Offered at Veterans Plaza, County Libraries
Thanks to federal COVID-19 grants, free outdoor WiFi is now available in front of the Silver Spring Civic Center at Veterans Plaza and 10 county libraries.
Driver Charged With Hit-and-Run, Handgun Possession, Other Offenses
Officers with the county’s Holiday Alcohol Task Force arrested a hit-and-run driver Dec. 30 and charged him with several offenses, including possession of a loaded handgun. Humberto Guerra, age 26, of Bronzegate Place in Silver Spring was identified as the driver of a white Nissan Versa that hit an unoccupied, parked vehicle around Carroll Avenue and Osage Street in the Langley Park area.

County Executive Marc Elrich issued a statement today asking residents to avoid the protestors set to descend on Washington D.C. on Wednesday in support of President Trump’s “erroneous claims that the election was fraudulent.”
White Oak ABS Store Reopens
The county’s Alcohol Beverage Services store in the White Oak Shopping Center at 11239 New Hampshire Ave. reopened yesterday, the department announced. The store temporarily closed after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.
Ride On Buses to Continue Temporary Free Rides and Rear Door Boarding
The County’s Department of Transportation (MCDOT) yesterday announced that Ride On, Ride On Extra, and Flash will maintain temporary, rear-door boarding and suspended fare collection practices when Metrobus resumes front-door boarding and fare collection on Sunday, Jan. 3.
Judge Upholds Indoor Dining Ban
A Montgomery County Circuit Court judge upheld a ban on indoor dining late Wednesday evening after a 12-hour hearing, concurring with judges in Prince George’s County and Baltimore City that made similar decisions earlier in the same day.
County Looking to Hire Urban District Program Manager
The county is looking for a program manager for the Silver Spring Urban District. The Urban District staff provides support for the Central Business District, maintaining streetscapes and public amenities including plantings, seating, shelters and public art.
