Some of the top events this week include opening night of the first Long Branch Festival on Friday night. The Nighthawks will perform at Sligo Creek Golf Course on Saturday in a benefit performance, while the second annual Montgomery Hills Street Fest is underway as well. That same day is the Takoma Foundation’s annual beer festival. The Friends of Sligo Creek will hold a Sweep the Creek clean up this weekend. On Sunday, enjoy the competition and grab a slice of the Takoma Farmers Market pie baking contest.

This holiday weekend includes live music at the Sligo Creek Golf Course and a movie screening on Sonny’s Green, along with a retired greyhound adoption event in Takoma Park and an Ethiopian festival on Veterans Plaza. Later in the week is an event featuring a look at a Takoma Park music legend, and more music at the golf course.

County Announces Lineup, Schedule for Jazz Festival

The county has announced the full lineup and schedule for the 16th annual Silver Spring Jazz Festival. The free festival will be held from 3-10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24 on Veterans Plaza. Grammy-award winning trumpeter Arturo Sandoval will headline this year’s performances.
