Street Fest to Combine Activities and Advocacy Tomorrow

Attendees can combine activities and advocacy at the second Montgomery Hills Street Fest scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 21 from 3–7 p.m.

The festival will be held on Columbia Boulevard, between Seminary Road and 16th Street (see map below), and feature local artisans who specialize in pottery, painting, fused glass, jewelry and clay pendants.

Sponsors promise entertainment from the Red Castle Blues, Suzanne Brindamour, the Albert Einstein Jazz Combo, and The Airport 77s. In addition, there will be games and activities for children, including face painting, and booths from local businesses and other organizations.

A key part of the gathering, organized by the Friends of Forest Glen & Montgomery Hills (along with neighboring civic associations and others), is the opportunity to meet with elected officials to discuss the need for improvements along the Georgia Avenue corridor.

The group expects Sen. Chris Van Hollen, U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin, County Executive Marc Elrich, Councilmembers Tom Hucker, Hans Riemer, Evan Glass and Gabe Albornoz, and most of the state delegates and senators from Districts 18 and 20 to attend.

In addition, the FFGMH booth will provide prepaid post cards addressed to state officials that attendees can sign, asking them to fund planned improvements.

Food will be available from Fred’s Ice Cream, Heavenly Wings Food Truck, Krazy Steve’s Comfort Cuisine, Meleket, Mofongo, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Spring Garden and Woodside Deli, among others. Denizen’s Brewing Co. will set up a beer garden for the event.

Finally, organizers ask attendees to bring a book to donate to Friends of the Library.
