Fitness, Music, and Giveaways: Montgomery County’s Older Americans Month Celebration in Silver Spring

The county’s Department of Health and Human Services and Montgomery County Recreation will celebrate older residents on Friday, May 24, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Long Branch Recreation Center in Silver Spring.

The event, held to honor “Older Americans Month” in May, will feature fitness demos, live music, food tastings, caregiver resources, vendor booths, and giveaways for those 55 and older.

This year’s theme, “Powered by Connection,” emphasizes the profound impact of meaningful relationships and social interactions on the health and well-being of older individuals.

“Older Americans Month is a time to honor the invaluable contributions of our older residents, who play a vital role in our community,” said County Executive Marc Elrich. “Their wisdom, experience and dedication enrich us in countless ways. The Long Branch Recreation Center event is a fun way to celebrate our older adults with activities that support their health and well-being.”

The Long Branch Community Recreation Center is located at 8700 Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring. Residents can sign up for Friday’s event on the ActiveMONTGOMERY website or call (240) 777-6840.
