Suspect Sought in Wheaton Bus Stop Robbery; Surveillance Footage Released

Montgomery County Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect in a robbery that occurred on February 5 in the 11900 block of Claridge Road in Wheaton.

According to an MCPD press release, the victim was disembarking from a Ride On bus at the Claridge Road and Claridge Court bus stop at approximately 6:30 p.m. on February 5 when the male suspect, who was also exiting the bus, approached the victim under the guise of asking a question. The suspect then briefly retreated before approaching the victim again, shoving her to the ground, causing her to drop her backpack and personal belongings. The suspect swiftly grabbed the victim’s backpack and fled the scene with the stolen property.

Detectives have obtained surveillance video footage of the suspect, described as a Black male between 15 and 19 years old, wearing a black jacket with fur on the hood, black pants, and white and red sneakers.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact the Montgomery County Police at (301) 279-8000 or provide anonymous tips to Crime Solvers of Montgomery County by calling toll-free at (866) 411-TIPS (8477), submitting a tip online, or through the P3 Tips app. A reward of up to $10,000 is offered for information that leads to the suspect’s arrest.
