Teenage Girl Dies in Metro Train Surfing Incident near Silver Spring Station

A teenage girl was tragically killed on Friday morning in what appears to be a “train surfing incident” near the Silver Spring station, according to Metro officials.

Metro spokesperson Jordan Pascale reported that at around 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Metro Transit Police officers responded to a call regarding the discovery of a deceased juvenile female near the Silver Spring Metro station in downtown Silver Spring. Pascale stated that Transit Police believe the fatality may have been a result of train surfing and that investigations are currently ongoing.

The victim’s identity and age have not been disclosed by Metro.

Metro is encouraging commuters to promptly report any unlawful or suspicious activities by contacting Metro Transit police at (202) 962-2121 or notifying a Metro staff member.

MoCo360 reported Friday that this incident marks the second fatality within a year associated with Metro train surfing. In a previous event in June, 15-year-old Jay Thirunarayanapuram of Silver Spring fell from a moving train close to the Rhode Island Avenue-Brentwood Metro Station while attempting to record himself train surfing.
