Reward of up to $10,000 Offered in Ellsworth Place Mall Robbery Investigation

Montgomery County Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying two suspects who were involved in a strong-arm robbery at a business located inside Ellsworth Place in downtown Silver Spring on February 1.

Surveillance photos of the suspects and a person of interest have been released by detectives.

At around 3 p.m. on February 1, two suspects visited Lela Mobile in Ellsworth Place under the guise of dropping off a phone for repair. Upon completion of the repair, one suspect leaped over the counter, snatched the phone when asked for payment, and struck the employee who intervened. Subsequently, the second suspect also hopped over the counter and stole property before both suspects fled with the stolen goods.

According to an MCPD press release, detectives acquired surveillance footage showing the suspects and a person of interest seen with them at Ellsworth Place:

  • The first suspect is described as a Black male, aged 16 to 20, standing 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 115 pounds, wearing a dark-colored jacket and black pants.
  • The second suspect, also a Black male, aged 16 to 20, stands 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighs 115 pounds, and was seen wearing a black jacket, red hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and a knit hat.
  • The person of interest is described as a Black female wearing a dark hooded coat and dark-colored leggings.
