Underground Pizza Company Adds Beer & Wine, Gluten-Free Pizza

Underground Pizza Company, located at 8235 Georgia Ave. in downtown Silver Spring, now offers beer and wine.

Customers can enjoy a 25% discount on all beer and wine glasses, as well as a 50% discount on bottles of wine until the end of January.

Additionally, a gluten-free crust is now available:

After searching far and wide, and exploring several different options, we were able to find a frozen crust made from rice flour that when combined with our premium ingredients, created a pizza that we felt was up to the Underground Pizza standard. We are excited to be offering a line of pizzas that will be made using GF ingredients. All pizzas will be cooked in GF only pans and handled with GF only tools, but they will not be cooked in GF only ovens. Due to the nature of our business and the day to day operations, we are unable to guarantee no cross contact, so these GF pizzas are not safe for those with severe gluten allergies.

During National Pizza Week, from Jan. 17-21, customers can get a 10% discount on dine-in, takeout, and delivery orders by using the code PizzaWeek at checkout. The National Pizza Week special cannot be combined with any other offers.

The MoCo Show reports that Evan Weinstein, owner of Underground Pizza Company, established the business in 2020 after the closure of concert venues in the area due to the pandemic. Weinstein, a concert promoter and founder of Steez Promo, commenced selling Detroit-style pizzas at local “pop-up” events, leveraging social media for marketing and swiftly building a dedicated customer base.

Following the success of the local pop-up events, UPC first opened at Power Plant Live! in Baltimore in 2020. In February 2022, it launched its second location at the former site of Olazzo at 8235 Georgia Ave. in downtown Silver Spring, following Olazzo’s closure in May 2021 after a 15-year run. UPC’s third restaurant in Towson opened in May 2022.
