One Year Later: Wayne Ave. Garage Murder Remains Unsolved

Thursday was the one-year anniversary of Charles Reynolds’ murder in the Wayne Ave. parking garage following a family trip to a restaurant in downtown Silver Spring.

Days before Christmas last year, 62-year-old Reynolds, who went by Joe, was discovered in the stairwell of the Wayne Avenue garage. Montgomery County Police are still without leads in the fatal shooting, as reported by Fox 5.

Reynolds had recently picked up his eldest daughter from the airport, where she had arrived from college in Colorado for the holidays, according to widow Karis Hastings. That night, they were celebrating the birthday of Hastings’ niece, who is the daughter of her sister Mary Beth. After dinner, the family went to Ben & Jerry’s at Ellsworth Place for ice cream, and Reynolds stepped out to the Wayne Ave. Garage to pack the leftovers, according to MoCo360.

“His death is a loss,” Hastings said earlier this year. “We’d really like to see someone come forward and resolve this. Obviously, nothing is going to bring him back but we’re hoping that getting the person who did it or the persons, it would make the community feel a little safer again.”

Police chief Marcus Jones stated that despite conducting extensive interviews with witnesses, searching the surrounding area, and pursuing leads, detectives have not been able to identify any potential suspects.

“I want to ensure the family of Mr. Reynolds that we will continue to investigate his murder until suspects have been identified, and apprehended and prosecuted by our state attorney’s office,” Chief Jones said in May. “We will investigate this till we find out who did this.”
