Metro: Silver Spring Escalator Replacement Project Now Complete

Metro has announced that the year-plus escalator replacement project at the Silver Spring station is now complete.

Work began last year at the north entrance between East-West Highway and Second Ave. in downtown Silver Spring, followed by the replacement of the three escalators at the south entrance.

The final escalator replacement was completed this week at the south entrance of the station.

The escalator replacement process, managed by escalator contractor KONE, was originally expected to take approximately eleven months in total. The project is part of Metro’s escalator replacement program, which will replace 130 escalators across 32 stations by the year 2028.
